Celebrating Native American Heritage: SUSD's Native American Education Program
In this special episode of SUSD Spotlight, we highlight the Scottsdale Unified School District’s Native American Education Program, which supports over 400 Native American students across the district by fostering cultural connections, providing academic assistance, and opening pathways to college and career success. Joining us are Sheila Cepress, Program Coordinator, and Ashley Perea, Native Education Specialist, who share insights into the program's impact on Native students. They discuss initiatives such as the CHANT Club, which creates a community for Indigenous students, and various educational programs designed to strengthen cultural heritage and support academic achievement. Sheila and Ashley also touch on the importance of mentorship, community events like the district’s Native American Heritage Month celebration, and collaborative efforts that empower students to embrace their identities and build their futures.
